"GC CCS ACQUAINTANCE DAY"
Event
Title:” CCS ACQUAINTANVE DAY 2023”
i. Details of the event/activity
The College of Computer Studies
brought together both faculty and students for a joyous and supportive day
during the annual CCS Acquaintance Day on Friday, September 29, 2023, kicking
off at 8:00 AM. The event, organized by the CCS Faculty in collaboration with
student groups like The Empowered League of Information Technology Education
Students (ELITES) for BSIT, the Society of Programming Enthusiasts in Computer
Science (SPECS) for BSCS, and the Innovative Multimedia Artists Guild of
Empowered Students (IMAGES) for BSEMC, was a collective effort to create a
memorable experience.
The festival was brimming with
interesting activities, and students took the initiative to set up imaginative
booths showcasing a variety of goods. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as
interactive games, in the form of lively question-and-answer sessions, provided
plenty of opportunities for everyone to participate and have fun. It was a day
where the CCS community came together, fostering a sense of unity and
celebration.
ii. Reflections the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)
What makes this event truly special is its departure from the
usual academic focus found in other IT seminars and tours. Instead, it places a
spotlight on fostering camaraderie among CCS students, offering them a platform
to proudly display their talents. This event isn't just a break from the
routine—it's a vital pause for everyone's mental health, a refreshing diversion
from the typical academic pressures we often face.
Being a part of this experience made me realize that the CCS
community at Gordon College is more than just an academic institution. It's a
close-knit family that prioritizes genuine connections, personal development,
and the overall well-being of its students. It goes beyond the realm of code
and studying, emphasizing the importance of a supportive community and a
holistic approach to student life.
iii. Reflections on possibilities on
implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level.
(Practical application of learnings)
Being part of the CCS Acquaintance
2023 wasn't just a one-time event for me; it sparked some practical ideas for
applying what we learned in our day-to-day college experiences. The focus on
fostering connections among students made me think about how we could infuse
this camaraderie into our group projects and collaborative assignments.
Additionally, providing platforms for talent showcase could extend beyond
events, becoming a regular feature that boosts confidence and inclusivity. It's
about taking the spirit of the event and making it a part of our ongoing
college life, creating a more vibrant and supportive community.
iv. Positive feedback (on the event organization)
I must say, the organizers of CCS
Acquaintance 2023 did an amazing job. The collaboration between faculty and
student groups truly paid off, resulting in a well-coordinated and
unforgettable experience. The imaginative booths and interactive games added such
a unique touch, creating an atmosphere of excitement and unity. Hats off to the
organizers for giving us a break from our usual academic routines and providing
a space where our talents could shine. The success of the event reflects the
dedication and creativity of those who put in the effort to plan and execute
it.
v. Suggestions for improvements to be made/ consider for future
activities
While CCS Acquaintance 2023 hit all
the right notes, there's always room for improvement, right? For future
activities, let's consider diversifying the range of things to do, catering to
various interests among students. More interactive sessions, workshops, or
discussions could provide additional opportunities for us to connect and learn.
It might be interesting to involve more students in the planning process to
bring in fresh perspectives and ideas. And hey, maybe we can explore using
technology for virtual participation or create hybrid events to make things
even more accessible and inclusive. Building on the success of this event,
let's keep evolving our activities to match the changing needs and interests of
our tight-knit CCS community at Gordon College.
